I get very bad back pain and I bought some stick on heat pads which have really helped. If your back is in spasm lay in the fetal position on either side for 15 mins and then swap. Also put an ice pack on it for 15 minutes then swap to a heat pad for 15 minutes (repeat as much as possible) and that should stop the spasm. The doctor told me to never lay on my back and sleep on my stomach and not to sit still for too long, even though it hurt like a b**** I did get up every 20 mins or so and walk around and it did make it feel better. This works for me and certainly starts working within a few minutes, I hope it works for you, back pain can be awful.

In my experience you need structural Balancing. Pelvic distortion is a factor missed quite often that leads to back pain and hip joints that are causing muscle strain at the hip but also misalignment at the knees. If this condition goes on long enough that there can be primary injuries to the low back, hips and knees due to the underlying pelvic distortion. The feet are also a player but that's for another article.
Read my comments on the Ergonomics of sleep. There is not much on the net yet but some day. Check out my site at deepsleeppillow.com where the Ergonomics of Sleep are mentioned. Also check out my comments I've made to other questions on this site. Vote for universal Health Care. I fear there are many in your boat that do not have the insurance to get care. All the Best, LP

I have heard that pilates is good for strengthening the back, and good for back pain. You do a lot of stretching so I would try that.

See a chiropracter, I hurt my neck working out and when I woke up the next morning I couldnt even move literally and so I went to a chiro and felt better almost instantly.
Try laying on your stomach then placing our hands palm down on the floor lift your torso off the ground and bend it as far back as possible with lifting your pelvis off the ground.
Sit on the ground with your legs out in front of you, take one leg and place it over the other so that your foot is next to your other knee. Using the opposite arm reach across the leg that is off the ground and use it to twist your torso. Switch and do the other side.
