How Safe Is Fusion After Artificial Disc Replacement And Does It Work?

I had ADR 2 years ago and after 6 months of smooth recovery suddenly went back into terrible pain. The doctors can only identify that the facet joints around the ADR are inflammed. Steroid and nerve block injections do not work. I am on tons of pain meds and a spinal stimulator but still in a lot of pain. The doctor and others have suggested I fuse around the ADR. I can’t find much on this procedure so I was wondering if anyone has had this done and was it successful?

    DON’T DO IT!
If the doctors told you your first surgery would work and it didn’t that should tell you something.
Back surgery is a horrible thing, that only really works about fifty percent of the time. In addition, if it doesn’t work, the only thing they can do is more and more surgery.
Your back isn’t meant to be fused into one straight bone, it needs to be able to move around. Fusing discs together doesn’t help make a healthy spine, it further injures it.
My suggestion is see a chiropractor before agreeing to surgery. First of all, it’s a hell of a lot cheaper. Second of all, it doesn’t require surgery. Third of all, it does NOT require SURGERY!

I didn’t have an ADR, but I did however, have the fusion done and it didn’t do anything but make my pain worse. Best of Luck if you decide to do it.
