Is Any Research Being Done To Reverse Spinal Fusion And Replace With Artificial Vertebrae?
Many years ago I underwent a fusion surgery because I was told it was the only option…recently I found out that in Germany has been doing disc replacement for almost 20 years. Is any research being done to reverse spinal fusion so that replacements may be put in?
I found very little information on search engines. I found mostly sites that delt with fusion or replacement. But nothing that involved the reversal of spinal fusion and then replacement of artifical dics. Please only answer if you’re in the medical field or if you know of a University or Orgainization that is doing such research.
Thank you

Once your the bones in the area where they did the fusion is fused, they can’t reverse that. My spinal Dr. did say they are doing research involving stem cells where they can put some cells between the bad discs in hopes it will regenerate the disc. But that’s only if you haven’t had a fusion. I had a two level lumbar fusion last year. My discs were so far collapsed that my Dr. said there wasn’t enough room for a disc replacement. so they aren’t for everyone anyway.
