Is Back Pain Really Bad At The Start Of Labour?

If you are having back labour, is the pain really severe or does it start off with bearable pain and build its way up? Do you just know that its back labour your having? Ive been having backpain for the past hour it is bearable at the minute was just wondering how do you ladies know? Im 38 weeks.

    Back labor is just life frontal labor………the pain stays a for awhile and returns like every 30 minutes. Back labor will turn into frontal labor at about the 2nd stage of labor. (you do know the 3 stages of labor, 1st light contractions about every 30 to 45 minutes and lose of your mucus plug, 2nd stage medium contraction about every 20 to 20 minutes and usually this is when your water breaks and 3rd hard frontal contractions every 5 to 3 minutes……then birth.) I had back labor with my daughter…….it felt like a charlie horse cramp in the lower part of my back……..then it went away and then it came back. Try timing how long the pain last. I mean when it gets to hurting bad then time how long it last until it starts to go away. Now you may be like my contractions never actually completely relaxed. I had to tell when the pain was worse or easier. We could tell by the contraction monitor. Contact your doctor……he should have an answering service and that way he can tell you what to do.

    Yikes! It could be the beginning of back labor.
    I suggest you get the baby to turn, ASAP, before your contractions may begin to get stronger. The best way to do this is to get on your hands and needs and do “cat” stretches with music. Gravity will work in your favor as the heaviest part of the baby is it’s back, and the music will stimulate movement also…..I’m at 39 weeks and am laboring at home until my contractions get closer together (currently at about 13 mins apart! Almost there!!). Early this morning I did this trick and it worked within 20 minutes…the back pain literally melts away once the baby turns, I promise!
    First, get in a “cat-stretch” position: on all fours, head lower than rear end. You can use pillows to kneel on. Take a flashlight, turn it on, and put the light against your lower abdomen directly the skin – the lower, the better. At the same time, use a portable CD player’s headset against the lowest part of your belly, with music turned on (but not blasting-loud, maybe on 6 out of 10 on the volume level). The fetus will hear the music and see the light, both encouraging him/her to turn toward it, i.e., your pelvis. Try for 30-45 minutes. You may need to do deep breathing, in the nose, out the mouth – the baby will be MOVING!

    Apparently that’s what my last labour was as i only had two hours of stomach contractions at the end of it all. It was bearable at first and i felt a lot on pressure in my abdomen when standing or walking. I was given a TENS machine to use which i found useless and the pain got worse gradually. It really just felt like i was badly constipated and needed to go to the toilet, sorry for tmi!

    Not all pregnant women have back pain… I didnt have any, but that was me…. If you are having pain, and you are 38 weeks, I would call your Dr. you might be in the on-set of labor….. alot of women have all their labor in their backs…………. so call the Dr.!!!!!

    I had back labor and I seriously thought I had gas. It started at around 11 pm on a Thursday and Friday around 5 am it was unbearable. It did get stronger and closer together. I sat on the toilet and pushed thinking I had gas I could push out. I had my son Friday at 2:10 pm.
