Probably the biggest negative is that not enough is known about long term outcomes. The next biggest negative is that Medicare does not cover it, nor do many private insurances.
Positive is that it preserves motion when compared to a fusion.
I’ve only seen one, and he did well, but I can’t tell you that it was a miracle or anything.

Thanks for asking this question. My husband has been waiting for his insurance to approve disc replacement for over 5 years.
I know that they are done with much success. I have also read that the one level replacements have a much higher rate of being pain free and less post op complications.
Good luck to you. It is always wise to get all the information you can before making a decision of the degree.
