Should I need to seek medical attention this second? Help, my life could be at stake?

Greetings! Here is a back pain question I found when I was looking at Yahoo.

I’m only an 18-year-old girl, and I woke up in the middle of the night with this sharp, almost stabbing pain in my rib, just under my left breast. Web MD said if the pain is made worse by breathing in or out, I have to seek medical attention. But I’m thinking it might not be too serious… but I can’t even breathe in all the way without it hurting really bad. The pain wasn’t there before I went to bed. So it must’ve happened in my sleep. I’m hoping I didn’t bust my appendix open or something. Both my parents are sleeping, and I don’t know what to do.
Yes, the pain is internal. It almost feels like my rib or something is caught onto a muscle or lung. I’ve tried moving around, so my rib might slip off my muscle, but it’s not working. I can’t breathe in or out all the way without it stabbing with pain.

What a great back pain question. Please visit us frequently for more questions and great answers.

Have an awesome day!

  1. Douglas B Says:

You have pinched muscles in your back giving you that pain for the back muscles often send the pains around the body on the nerves to become rib, chest or heart pains. When you try to take a breath and your ribs are expanding they are pressing into the already pinched muscles to cause more pain. to get rid of the pain you have to free up your back muscles and here’s how to do that:
    Back:
(do while sitting on a chair)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front, and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm as straight as possible. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, then release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

almost stabbing pain in my rib, just under my left breast right lower abdomen is appendix not the problem but wake em and go could be something just as bad

    see a doctor

I’m not saying you shouldn’t see a doctor but your appendix is no where near there.

But my gut is telling me this will go away soon. If it gets any worse you need to do something but I doubt you’re having a serious medical condition at your age with no onset.

    EDIT

Your rib can’t “slip” off of your muscle, and your rib isn’t stabbing your lung despite feeling that way. You’re probably having some cramping of some sort, I doubt moving around will solve it. I think I’ve had these types of pains before, just try to lay down and relax. Also try having some water. If it’s still hurting you in 15 – 20 minutes get your parent up and ask them what they think you should do.

Again, if it gets worse or you really think it’s bad enough get your parents. I’m sure they wont be upset considering you’re just concerned for your health.
