What Non-machine Exercises Can Work The Lower Back?

Are there any effective exercises for the lower back that need little more than a floor, wall, or mat?

    Lower back hyper extensions, dead lifts, stiff legged dead lifts.

    Hyper extensions are your best bet then. Those are where you basically lay slanted on a machine with your legs slanted and straight. Then you bend your back forward and back.
