Why Can Lower Back Surgery Cause You To Go Blind?
One of my loved ones is battling terrible sciatica, but she is scared of getting the surgery because there is a risk of blindness associated with the procedure that I suppose comes with any lower back surgery. Have you known of anyone who did go blind from lower back surgery? Do you know why blindness is a possibility in that kind of surgery? Is the blindness anything which can be fixed through further surgery? Thank you so much.

Lower Back surgery may cause Blindness because of the damage to the posterior optic nerve—likely caused by the heavy blood loss during the spine surgery.

Do go through the last question in the analysis part in the second link.
Best of luck.

The risk of blindness is very very slim. I would just say that low back surgery is only 60% successful and often requires follow up surgeries in the future. The pain either moves up or down from the original site. Chiropractic is very successful with this condition and the best part is NO RISK OF BLINDNESS.
